Craig Rosen, PhD, Executive Chairman
Prior to joining PhaseBio, Craig was Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer at Teva Biopharmaceuticals, USA and remains a consultant for the company. He was also the Co-Founder, Chief Scientific Officer and Executive Chairman of Cogenesys before its acquisition by Teva Pharmaceuticals. Prior to founding CoGenesys, Craig was President and Chief Scientific Officer of Human Genome Sciences as well as scientific founder and member of their Board. Craig has served on several corporate boards as well as on the American Foundation for AIDS Research (AmFar) and the Scientific Advisory Boards for the Institute of Human Virology and the Wistar Institute.
James Barrett, PhD, Director
Jim joined New Enterprise Associates (NEA) in 2001 as a General Partner. Specializing in biotechnology, he works with members of NEA's healthcare investment group on medical devices, healthcare information systems and healthcare service companies. Prior to joining NEA, Jim served as Founder, Chairman and CEO of Sensors for Medicine and Science where he remains Chairman. In addition to PhaseBio, Jim currently serves on the Board of several other biotech/pharma companies.
Ashutosh Chilkoti, PhD, Director
Ashutosh, a co-founder of PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., is a Professor in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Duke University and Associate Director of the Center for Biologically Inspired Materials and Materials Systems. His research in biomolecular materials and surface science emphasizes the development of applications that span the range from bioseparations, biosensors, patterned biomaterials, and targeted drug delivery. Dr. Chilkoti, the inventor of the deltaPhase™ and drug delivery technologies, serves as a scientific advisor to PhaseBio in the field of protein purification and drug delivery.
Guy Fish, MD, Director
Guy is Vice President in the Healthcare Practice Group at Fletcher Spaght Ventures. Previously, Guy held an operating position at Collagenesis, was a senior member of The Boston Consulting Group and served as a securities analyst in the medical devices group of Sanford Bernstein.
Bob Ingram, Director
Bob has been a General Partner with Hatteras Venture Partners since 2004. Prior to joining Hatteras, he had a long and distinguished career in pharmaceuticals, most recently as CEO and Chairman of GlaxoWellcome. There he co-led the merger and integration that formed GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), In addition to his position at Hatteras, Bob also serves as Vice Chairman Pharmaceuticals at GSK and sits on the Board of several corporations. He is a frequent speaker at industry and government seminars.
Justin Klein, MD, JD, Director
Justin, a Principal with New Enterprise Associates (NEA) since 2006, focuses on medical device, specialty pharma and biopharmaceutical company investments. Previously Justin worked for the Duke University Health System, reporting directly to the CEO on health system strategy, finance and clinical service operations; he was also with Latham & Watkins LLP where he worked on regulatory and licensing matters with life science companies.
Clay Thorp, Director
Clay is a General Partner with Hatteras Venture Partners and brings many years of experience in starting and building biotechnology companies. As a member of the founding team for Synthematix, a research informatics company, Xanthon, a genomic biosensor company and Novalon, a drug discovery tools company, Clay has been involved in establishing early strategic direction, raising capital and structuring licensing deals.
Asish Xavier, PhD, Director
Asish is a Vice President with Johnson & Johnson Development Corporation, the venture arm of J & J. Previously, Asish held positions in business development at BioRexis Pharmaceutical Corp. (acquired by Pfizer in 2007) and SGX Pharmaceuticals and was a project leader at Message Pharmaceuticals. In addition, he was also a postdoctoral research fellow in the Dept. of Chemistry at John Hopkins University.
